This week ITV lead the way with two new dramas so let’s see what’s out there shall we?
Sharp’s Janet Scott has troubles at home also as her husband is fighting with her mum and she is still tempted into the arms of colleague Andy.
Three strong central performances and great chemistry between Sharp and Jones means that Scott & Bailey marks itself out as an involving, well-written character-driven police drama and overall a definite improvement on series one’s opening episode.
Another new show this week is Love Life which stars Downton Abbey’s Rob James-Collier as Joe a jack-the-lad sort who lives in a TV Northern town where all the men are scaffolders and all the women are ridiculously pretty.
The problem is that these moments almost overshadow the crime element of the programme with the story involving the conspiracy of several bodies being found almost wrapped up too quickly despite featuring a great cameo from Lisa ‘Mandy Dingle’ Riley.
Despite this Scott and Bailey is a brilliantly written script while it might not be the best cop show around it certainly presents plenty of well-rounded characters who are given realistic dialogue with their problems being relatable rather than ludicrous.
The premise is quite simple - two sexy strangers are thrown onto a barren sound stage, and they make out without introduction, loudly and awkwardly for..long.
